21st Century Skills: Free Resource for English Teachers
One of the BIG buzz words and phrases in education right now is “21st Century Learning” and educators will soon be required to verify how they are incorporating them into their lessons. A great new and free resource is now available for English teachers.
All teachers should visit: http://www.21stcenturyskills.org/
Thanks to a partnership between the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and the Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21) teachers can access a framework for how 21st century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication can be incorporated into English classes. A similar framework for social studies teachers was released earlier this year.
Sample lessons are offered that combine these 21st century skills with interdisciplinary themes as models of how to align teaching and the new standards for 21st century learning.
“This framework, which includes examples taken directly from proven classroom practices, represents an exciting tool for teachers and students as they move toward a 21st-century education system,” said Kylene Beers, NCTE president. “The map also mirrors the evolving nature of NCTE, as we ensure our organization and members possess the tool and resources that are required for success in the 21st century.”
The map provides specific outcomes and models that aim to help students in grades 4, 8, and 12.
